Urgh.. this feels stupid. I suspect my parents are gonna drag me to the doctor later on. I mean, yeah like, my exams are next wednesday (yep we uni students are not just sitting around and shaking our legs during the hols, we DO have extra special semester lessons) and if I'm sick I can't exactly go for an exam can I? In any case I won't be in the best form for the exam. But.. I can feel it.. I really can! I really feel that I'm gonna recover soon! I mean, my cough is gone! Well, almost. And there, my blocked nose is gone! Ok.. shit.. this thing is jinx.. the minute I typed that the blocked nose came back. Oh and my phlegm! It's almost disappeared into thin air! Almost. *clears throat*. My point is:
1. You know, all these viruses.. it's not like the doctor can cure u of them! They just prescribe medicine to alleviate the symptoms. Read that carefully.. alleviate. Means the symptoms won't even be completely gone! The viruses are ultimately gotten rid of by your own immune system, not the medicine (in most cases). So you have not your doctor, but yourself to thank whenever you recover from that cold, flu etc....
2. You have to take antibiotics. Just in case some bacteria attack your weakened body.
And hence, you run the risk of some immune reaction, commonly known as allergy. I mean, why the hell put yourself thru all this suffering!?
3. You spend a good part of your youth waiting for your turn at that clinic. When in my case, I could have spent that time watching tv or studying for that exam.
4. You spend good money on that doctor, when you are not even 100% sure he/she can cure you of whatever disease you have. (suddenly brought to mind this TNP article I read about this taxi driver who told some foreign tourist that "It's cheaper to die than to see a doctor in Singapore". Oh well, I was just quoting!
5. You can get Clarinase and Panadol easily over the counter at the convenience store downstairs for a small amt of money, and it will do an effective job at alleviating the symptoms as well.
6. Yeah you may have suspected it, but let me confirm it for you. Some of the drugs that are prescribed by doctors to treat the common cold or flu include paracetamol, which is just a fancy name for panadol, and clarinase. Yeah! Proves my point exactly. When you can just get them cheaply, why spend big bucks on the consultation fees?!
7. All the above I meant as a joke. I have zillions of doctor friends.. KX, WH, JL, Ja, etc.. and I hope they can earn big bucks as well! So go go go... go see more doctors.. erm.. not now.. mebbe wait till they graduate from med sch. Will inform you pple when you can start going to see docs. And will tell you pple which docs to see. Let them earn more $$!!! YAY! So they can treat me next time.. to nice nice food.. nice nice movies.. etc etc! And of cos, they must MUST must give me MCs for my "headaches", "tummyaches", "menstrual cramps" etc etc... whenever I don't feel like seeing my boss!! YAY! I love med friends! K time to get back to reality.. my dad's screaming at me to go fatten that doc's pocket... now. Sayonara!
