JC lingo

Haha.. hey.. don't complain about me not updating the blog as often as last time lar.. Sigh.. these few days a bit busy.. and kind of ran out of inspiration on what to write. And btw.. did u know even after u deleted your comment I can still read it? Haha.. maybe cos this is my blog =p

Yepz and today's highlight..
This article appeared in The New Paper on Sunday (27th Feb). Haha.. thot u guys out there reading this might find it interesting.. HC kias and people from other JCs.

TAKE this reading test. Never come across some of these words?

Then you are probably (a) a mugger, (b) muggerish or (c) muggerified.

Which is to say, you are not in the know about the latest lingo in junior colleges here because you bury your head in your textbooks all day long.

Such terms are so common that when The New Paper asked several students from Meridien Junior College whether they know their school lingo, they chimed in unison: 'Ya balls!' (It means yes.)

A Victoria Junior College student who didn't want to be named said: 'Someone starts using a certain word, and you just keep hearing it. After a while, you naturally start using it.'

Nobody really knew how the words cropped up. They just spread.

However, trying to compile all the colleges' lingo was no easy task.

Some claimed their college was made up of a whole mish-mash of people, and so they they had no phrases unique to themselves.

Still, is it not fantabulous and qool, how such terms and phrases catch on so quickly?
Here's some JCspeak:

Anderson Junior College
'Non Mich Solum' (The school motto, which means 'Not for myself alone)

Anglo-Chinese Junior College
'Chat-Chat' (pronounced chart-chart, means lousy)

Catholic Junior College
'Shing Ga Them, Ga Them' (What's done is done)

Pioneer Junior College
Slack aah... (why so relaxed?)

Hwa Chong Institution
'Wake up your idea, Sian Diao' (Boring la!)

Innova Junior College
'Telly-Tubby Hill' (the hill near the campus where the students run during PE lessons)

Jurong Junior College
'JJ Spirit' (For example: Where's your JJ Spirit man! Where's your warm feeling)

Meridien Junior College
'Mer-lions and Mer-maids' (What the students call each other),'Lai-on's Den' (Principal is known as Ms Lai),'Qool la' (cooler version of cool)

Millenia Institute
'Duh!' (Oh yes!)'Our little playground': Their PE area.

Nanyang Junior College
'fantabulous' (fantastic and fabulous)

National Junior College
'chap-a-lang' (a mish-mash of everything), 'CMI' (cannot-make-it)

Raffles Junior College
That's so gay la (Wimpy)

Saint Andrew's Junior College
'100 per cent chop stamp confirmed guarantee plus warranty card' (for sure), 'AICK' (a term of exclamation that can be used for anything at all)

Temasek Junior College
'Mugger' (bookworm), 'Not so Lucky Heights' (Lucky Heights estate is where the students go for PE lessons)

Victoria Junior College
Sia la (Wow, unbelievable).

Haha.. btw, I included the email and name of the author of this article. In case u find it inaccurate, can go shoot him/her. Haha.. cos at least on my part, I find it pretty inaccurate lar. Hey, "slack" is universal speak lar.. not unique to PJ kias leh.. then I dunno abt this.. but any non-HC kias can enlighten me? "Sian diao" is unique to HC?? I never knew that.. haha..
Then things like "JJ spirit" also they count as unique lingo lar.. pls.. come on all u HC kias out there.. we have HC spirit too rite!??! And it's 10 times, no.. 100 times, no... 1000 times more than whatever other school spirit lar! Even though events like orientation, CNY and MAF etc seem to be forever marred by horrible looking "lanterns" and other decorations (recall the "phoenix" that we mistook to be a dragonfly?), we never fail to go back support rite?!?! Haha.. anyway.. back to the topic JC lingo..
Yar.. things like "duh", "chap-a-lang", "CMI", "gay", "mugger" and "sia la" seem like, universal language rite?! I mean, I was not from these schools, and I say these words too! Sigh.. trust all these old people to try to write an article abt Y-generation language.. and the contexts in which the words are used are also not very accurate! Oh wait.. talking abt old people.. suddenly I remember this incident.. 1 or 2 days ago.. my friend and I were saying something "CMI".. but it seems like, guys juz 2 years older than us dun seem to understand the word (or words) CMI! Sigh... the generation gap seems to be more serious than I used to think.. haha
